What is Out of the Darkness?

Do you know someone trapped in addiction? Have you ever thought, I can't do this anymore — or lain awake wondering, What am I supposed to do? Have you begged him to put the drink down and come home, or pleaded with God to heal her, yet they only seem to slip further away?

If you love someone with addiction, chances are you have heard a lot of advice, read all the books, researched the treatment options, and still feel out of your depth and alone. That's why we created Out of the Darkness — a full-day seminar built for the families, friends, and communities who love someone struggling with addiction. It's for the worn-out spouse, the heartbroken parent, the friend who doesn't know how to show up anymore, and the church that wants to be there for all of them but isn't sure how.

We bring clinical expertise, the truth of Scripture, and decades of experience to the table — fostering a safe space to learn, share, grow, ask questions, and reflect on this journey.

Led by licensed professionals and biblical teachers who have walked this road — both clinically and personally — Out of the Darkness is a place to find hope and community as we walk toward the Light together.

“You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

— John 1:5

What participants can expect

  • Finally understand what addiction actually is — biologically, psychologically, and spiritually. Leave with a framework that replaces confusion with compassion.

  • Scripture has a lot to say about suffering, love, and redemption. We'll explore what the Bible offers the family walking through addiction — not as a list of rules or a formula for fixing someone, but as a living source of hope, wisdom, and endurance for the long road.

  • Personal testimonies from people who have suffered addiction and loved others through it. You are not alone.

  • Table discussions, Q&A, and space to say the things you've been afraid to say. This is a place where hard questions are welcomed, not hushed.

  • Not just inspiration — actionable skills for how to show up, what to say, how to set limits without shutting doors, and how to care for yourself in the process.

  • Connection with others who understand. Resources to take home. And the knowledge that your church or community can become a safer, more hopeful place.

  • A clear understanding of addiction and the brain

  • A biblical framework for what it means to love someone well without carrying what only God can carry

  • Compassion that replaces shame and blame

  • Practical boundaries rooted in love, not fear

  • Tools to care for your own soul in the process

  • A curated resource guide for continued support

HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL TAKE HOME:

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

— JOHN 1:5
